Dalina Takes Cablecam to the Superbowl!

Dalina's work for Cablecam, an innovative company that builds complex camera suspension systems, has resulted in a comprehensive portfolio of patents. The camera movement systems patented by Dalina have been used to film major motion pictures such as Spiderman, Catwoman, Van Helsing, True Lies, Dare Devil, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as televised events such as the Academy Awards, Nascar events, and numerous Super Bowls.

For example, if you watched Super Bowl XXXLIII you have seen Cablecam's patented systems in action showing the game from overhead. What you most likely could not tell from watching the game is that the IP litigators at Dalina had to achieve a legal touchdown or there own to make sure Cablecam had the opportunity to use its camera suspension system at the Super Bowl.

In defending against a preliminary injunction sought by Cablecm competitor CF Inflight, Dalina lawyers successfully obtained a ruling denying arguments that Cablecam infringes U.S. Patent No. 4,710,819.

Daniel Cotman, lead counsel for Cablecam in the patent infringement dispute stated "we knew we should prevail and did. In our view the lawsuit completely lacked any merit whatsoever and should have never been filed. Although it was a tough fight we are pleased the Judge agreed. It's good to make sure clients go to the Super Bowl."

In ruling on the motion, U.S. District Court Judge Legrome Davis concluded that Cablecam attorneys showed CF InFlight had little likelihood of success in winning the patent infringement claim which sought to prevent use of Cablecam's "Multi-V" camera suspension system to televise the Super Bowl. In his order, Davis concluded that Cablecam "identified persuasive evidence of invalidity" and ruled that no injunction should be issued. It was Dalina's exhaustive search for prior art and comprehensive arguments on the topic that brought such invalidating prior art to bear.

If an injunction were issued, Davis noted that Cablecam would be forced to breach its contract with CBS. And the public interest also leaned against any injunction, he said, adding that "the viewing public would lose the footage provided by the aerial, three-dimensional camera angles at the most significant NFL football game of the season."

"It's not just a win. To use an analogy from another sport, it's a grand slam home run out of the park," said a spokesperson for Cablecam.

Result = action from preliminary injunction defeated, lawsuit settled, numerous patents obtained.
